None of these are published rates. LexisNexis does not post a price card the way Thomson Reuters now does for firms up to ten attorneys. Every number above came from a third party reporting what a firm was quoted. Get your own number in writing before comparing it to anything.

Content outside your selected plan is billed per search and per document. The Franklin County Law Library published roughly sixty dollars per Lexis search for out of plan use, updated June 16, 2026. An associate exploring an unfamiliar jurisdiction accumulates these without seeing a warning.

The reliability question
A Stanford RegLab and Yale study published in 2024 tested leading paid AI legal research tools for fabricated or unsupported output. Lexis+ AI performed better than the Westlaw product in the reported results and still produced hallucinated content at a measurable rate. The failure mode is generative architecture, not vendor quality, and it does not appear on any pricing page.
Marcella retrieves from an indexed corpus of more than 10 million judicial opinions. A citation absent from the index cannot be returned. That constraint sits below the model rather than beside it. The running record of what happens when it is absent is at heppner-problem.com.

What is the cheapest alternative to LexisNexis?
Free, if your state bar provides a Fastcase or vLex membership tier. More than 40 state bars do. The free tier generally excludes advanced AI features and sometimes the full citator. Below that, published paid rates start near $99 per seat per month.
Is there a free alternative to Shepard's?
Not an exact one. Shepard's is a LexisNexis product requiring a subscription. CourtListener and Google Scholar provide the underlying citing references for free, but you read the citing cases yourself rather than reading an editor's treatment verdict.
How much does Lexis+ AI cost?
LexisNexis does not publish a rate. Third-party reporting puts the enterprise figure near $17,500 per year and the per-seat AI add-on between $200 and $500 per user per month for firms with an existing subscription. Both are estimates, not vendor-published prices.
Can I keep Shepard's and add Marcella?
